Close Them All, I’d Like To Close Them All
In the movie Backdraft, arsonist Ronald (played by Donald Sutherland) is asked what he’d like to do to people, “Burn them, burn them all,” he replies in a husky and slightly demented tone. After another fire on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico ask any Democrat what they’d like to do and they’ll say, “Close them, close them all,” in husky and slightly demented tones.
After another oil rig fire in the Gulf, Democrats and environmentalists are terrified of oil despite there being no spill and no deaths from this incident or the vast majority of oil rig fires. In fact, there are around 100 such fires each year in the Gulf. Yet the enviro-nuts and the Democrats say this is proof positive that drilling moratoriums are a good thing and need to be extended. Eliminating American jobs and increasing our dependence on foreign blood oil appears to be a good thing in the eyes of the Democrats.
According to an article by AP writer Matthew Daly, the event was “frightening.” Yes, frightening. The environmental group Oceana rushed to judgement too, saying that the moratorium needs to be extended due to this latest of 100 seasonal fires. This moratorium does not cover the deepwater rigs, where this fire occurred, 100 miles off-shore.
This morning’s explosion and fire on an offshore oil production platform owned by Mariner Energy near Vermilion Bay, LA, as reported by WDSU Television, New Orleans, is further evidence that offshore drilling is dangerous for humans and marine ecosystems.
“This latest explosion underscores the need for the U.S. to maintain its moratorium on all new offshore oil and gas drilling. It’s another reminder that drilling accidents happen all too frequently. We cannot afford to lose any more human lives, nor can we tolerate further damage to the gulf and its irreplaceable ocean ecosystems,” said Oceana senior campaign director Jacqueline Savitz.
Yes, horrifying for the environment. Despite 99% of the oil rig fires never make the news, nor do they cause loss of life or environmental damage, the Democrats and whack-o enviro-nuts are determined that next to Glenn Beck, oil rigs are the earth’s worst enemy and must be shut down at all costs, even when that cost is the livelihood of thousands of workers. Thousands. Each oil rig creates 1,000 jobs and there are 33 currently not operating in the Gulf. That means 33,000 less jobs, but according to the Democrats that never happened. So, those workers are still in the Gulf on the rigs getting paid to do nothing? That is what Democrats would like you to believe.
Get through all the hype and you have this, the Democrats are using a deep-water oil rig fire with no death and no spill to justify extending the drilling moratorium. The Democrats and whack-o enviro-nuts are screaming how scary this fire is despite no spill and no deaths. The Democrats and whack-o enviro-nuts would rather we lose jobs and hurt economic recovery than keep America pumping her own oil for posterity and prosperity.
This time the Democrats have no good disaster to use to their benefit, so they have to take an incident that occurs routinely and make it a disaster that they cannot let go to waste.
