In The Mind Of A Liberal…
In the mind of a liberal (today’s type of liberal, not the classic liberal) everyone else is at fault for the bad choices people make. The following story is true.
It is a hot summer night, sweltering, stuffy, humid. The power is out. We have the doors to the fire station open hoping for even a hint of a breeze. Around midnight a call comes in. Two car accident, multiple persons trapped. We get on scene and find chaos. A couple and their daughter are trapped in their pickup. The daughter in the back seat is screaming louder than a fire truck siren. All three have critical injuries. Another car (100 feet off the road) has two occupants, both trapped. The car passenger is dead. The driver is highly intoxicated, unhurt, and unforgivable. He is crying for his mother.
I extricate the drunk driver and walk through the dark back to the road carrying the heavy jaws of life. Halfway back I trip over something and fall on it. I get up, turn on my handlight and find another body. A gruesome sight. A young boy about thirteen and very obviously dead. I can see brain matter. After paramedics get to him I pick up the jaws and continue to the road. I step out of the dark and into the glare of the portable lights set up to light the scene. People stop what they are doing and look at me. They point and stare. What did I do? I set the jaws down on the ground and see what they are looking at. My firefighting outfit is covered with blood. I looked like an accident victim.
Hours later after the scene has been cleaned up and cleared, and my equipment has been cleaned of blood, we sit and quietly ponder the night’s call. The phone rings shattering our quiet brooding. Officer answers the phone, expresses surprise, hangs up. Comes out of the radio room shaking his head. The kid I found, we had thought he was in the car. He was not. He was in the back seat of the pickup the car hit. The force blew him out of the truck and over fifty feet into the field.
Days later I am at home listening to a talk radio show on a station out of Lansing, Mi. The host is conservative, gets angry with a woman who blames society totally for an accident her son was in, killing two people. Her son was drunk. She makes every excuse she can for him. But “Johnny” is such a good boy, he doesn’t deserve to go to jail for one mistake. “Those people were destined to die that night, it was their time, God called them home, if not my son, someone else would have killed them.” Yeah, she really said that. Twenty five years later and I still remember those words as if I heard them today. I was shocked. The host was shocked.
I call in to the show. When the host hears what I have to say he immediately puts me on the air live. I explain the story I just wrote about. I then ask the woman, “Who is the bad person here, the drunk driver, or is society to blame. The driver ma-am, the driver” The woman goes off on me, frothing mad like a rabid dog. She screams, cusses calls me names, calls me ignorant. During her rambling she says things and a light goes off. I ask her where her son’s accident occurred. She tells me. I’m stunned. It was her son driving that car and she knew what accident I was talking about. Talk about crossed paths.
She goes into hysterics defending her “good” son. She demoralizes society and puts full blame on all of us for her son being an alcoholic. We all did this to him. You and me folks, all of us are to blame. The host hangs up on the woman. We are silent for a moment. “Wow, that woman cannot deal with reality,” the host says. “No she can’t ,” I agree. The show ends for there is nothing more to say. Words just won’t come.
Sad. So sad. But that is the mind of today’s liberal. They can’t handle reality and blame everything bad in their lives on something else. Like Obama blaming America for the world’s negative issues. I inherited this mess and I am sorry America is so arrogant. Can’t deal with reality, Obama can’t. Not at all.
